LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A new Catholic bishop for the Lafayette-in-Indiana Diocese will be introduced on Wednesday.

The current bishop, 76-year-old William L. Higi, will introduce his successor at a news conference at 1:30 p.m. on May 12 at St. Mary Cathedral.

Higi has been bishop for the Lafayette-in-Indiana diocese over over 25 years. He began in this role in 1984.

The new bishop will not begin his duties immediately. He will be installed at a later date, and Higi will continue as apostolic administrator until that date.

The Lafayette-in-Indiana diocese spans 24 counties, includes 63 parishes, as well as more than 105,000 Catholics.

The blogs are on it, but American Papist points out that the local news were on it first and how!
