The Urgent Need for Total Beauty

Jean LeClercq's words in his The Love of Learning and the Desire for God. Whence arises that need? Prayer, of course. And here is something else to add to the picture:

“The best way to avoid the gods, if there is a way, is to be very wide awake and sober and hard at work, to hear no music, never to look at earth or sky, and (above all) to love no one.”
--C.S. Lewis, Till We Have Faces (New York: Harvest—Harcourt, Brace & Company, 1984), 81.

When's the last time you were pensive, bowled over, at leisure?
When's the last time you sat still and heard sweet music?
Or looked at earth or sky?
Or got on your knees and did some hard chore or swallowed some response--for love?
Quick. Close this blog and go do one of these things! Go look at the moon. Go mop the floor for someone you love. Or hope to love.
